If anyone would’ve told me that I would be practising yoga in a sauna-like room with around 25-30 other sweaty, almost naked people about 4-5 times a week I would’ve thought they were crazy. But something sparked my interest when I walked past this hot yoga studio everyday and saw the happy people coming out of it. I’ve loved Yoga for a couple of years already but had never tried Hot Yoga before. One of my 2019 resolutions was to try more new things. So why not give it a go?
I’m not going to lie – the first practise was quite weird. There were the people in a sticky hot room, with only little clothing on, dripping and sweating and making noises I’ve never heard during doing Yoga before haha. But something got me hooked. I signed up for a 30 days trial and practised around 4-5 times a week. Whenever I could fit one of the classes in I would. I’ve always loved the heat (such a summer girl) and Yoga as well but I wasn’t sure if I could get used to all the sweat haha. You have to wipe your face, when you look down it’s dripping on your towel and when you come out of the studio you look like you’ve already taken your shower. I have grown to enjoy the combination of warmth, exercise and Yoga so much though that I don’t even notice it anymore. The classes and teacher are all so different which really spices it up and it doesn’t feel like you’ve already been there several times this week. The community (maybe it’s special at this studio which I can’t judge so far since I’ve only practised at this one) is so welcoming and nonjudgmental which I find fascinating. Especially because even though Yoga is supposed to let you only focus on your own body and mind it is still quite often about comparing to each another. How far can they bend down? Why can they reach their ankle but I can’t? But I haven’t felt like that at all at the Fierce Grace Studio. I’m not going to keep going on and on about how much I love Hot Yoga but if you’ve been looking to try out a unique and not so common exercise or if you just really enjoy doing Yoga I can only strongly advise you to give it a chance. Maybe you’ll hate it but maybe it’ll become your new obsession as well.
